ERG provides soil inventories, analyses, and interpretations. Inventory of soil resources provides the basis for land use planning within the limits of land capability. Analyses of a soil’s physical and chemical properties allow an assessment of ecosystem health. ERG assesses factors limiting biogeochemical nutrient cycling, thereby providing the basis for management activities that maintain or enhance soil productivity.
Interpretation of soil morphological characteristics provides insights on how climatic, physiographic, and biotic factors interact with land use over time to bring ecological sustainability or environmental degradation. Soil properties control such important environmental attributes as runoff and erosion, moisture and nutrient availability to plants, and slope stability.
