City of Helena

Helena Open Lands Management Plan

  • ERG prepared a management plan for 35 parcels (1,762 acres) of city-owned open space adjacent to Helena, Montana.
  • The plan encompasses such issues as fire, wildlife, weeds, recreation, forest, native plants, interpretation, and development.
  • Project involved the extensive inventory of open lands features through public process, field inventory and interviews.
  • This public process played a significant role in defining goals and objectives for management of the open space, and though it was a controversial issue, the plan was generally accepted by the public due to their extensive involvement with its development.
